Minecraft Moment

TFK Kid Reporter Nate Rhew spoke with actor Sebastian Hansen. He plays Henry in A Minecraft Movie, in theaters April 4. Read the transcript below to hear Sebastian’s thoughts on being a young actor and on making the movie.
What was it like working on such a big film with Jack Black and Jason Momoa?
They’re really amazing people, and I was blessed with an opportunity to work with them. I definitely took a lot of information from them and from how they are as actors. Working with them was just incredible—Danielle [Brooks], Emma [Meyers], all of them.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
Being in New Zealand was amazing. It’s a beautiful country. We were there for four months. Waking up, going to [the movie] set, and working with a director, doing different scenes. . . . It was definitely insightful for me: how all this stuff works, and how to become a better actor.
Tell me about Henry, your character. What did you like about him, and what did you find interesting about him?
Henry is very relatable to me, very similar. He’s a really smart kid who likes to draw and be creative. I’m also very creative and want to try different things. Throughout the movie, Henry gets to do that.
Who do you think would enjoy the movie the most?
A lot of kids are going to like it. I think they’re going to enjoy all the cool Minecraft stuff. And people who play Minecraft regularly, the community fans, are gonna like it, too. I think anyone's gonna like it. It’s just a good movie.
What do you like best about acting?
Traveling, and the people. Seeing so many different faces and meeting all these great people around the world that do this.
What’s next for you?
Doing the rest of school. But I definitely want to be in some other movies, and maybe do stunts. I’m really liking stunts, so far. I did a good number of stunts in the movie. I like jumping, flipping—all of that.
What advice would you give to kids who want to become actors?
I’d say, don’t take it too hard. It’s a challenge. If you want to start slow, do stuff in school. There’s a lot of great opportunities in school, like theater and film. That’s a good way to start. And then, maybe start going to acting classes. But really, I would say, just be you. Just be a kid when you act. That’s the big thing.
