-
JUDGING: On or about June 22, 2026, all Submissions will be judged by TIME for Kids editors ("Judges") in two (2) rounds of evaluation (each a "Round") unless further evaluation is required due to a tie (see below).
-
First Round/Judging: Submissions will be reviewed and considered by TIME for Kids editors to determine finalists ("Finalists") based on the following equally-weighted judging criteria ("First Round Judging Criteria"): (i) Originality – how unique is the story being reported; (ii) Grammar – how well-written is the story; (iii) Clarity – how clear is the topic at hand; (iv) Newsworthiness – how timely and important is the story at this moment; (v) Reporting – how many sources and direct quotes does the story include; and (vi) Distinctiveness — what sets the application apart from others.
The selection of Finalists will be made by the Judges based on the First Round Judging Criteria above. Sponsor and Judges reserve the right to choose fewer than twenty (20) Finalists if, in their sole discretion, an insufficient number of qualified entries are received. A minimum of 10 points are needed to be qualified.
-
Finalist Round/Judging: Parents/legal guardians of the selected Finalists will be notified via phone and email on or around July 13, 2026, and, after obtaining parental/legal guardian permission, each of the Finalists may be interviewed by phone and asked to submit one (1) video clip no longer than 3 minutes in length that displays The Top 5 Amazing Things that we should know about YOU (the Finalist) and a final assignment no longer than 450 words in length about a young person making a positive difference in their community. Finalists’ parent or legal guardian will be required to send their child’s video clip ("Video") and final assignment ("Final Assignment") to Sponsor to an email address or video upload site specified by Sponsor no later than Monday, August 3, 2026. The Video and the Final Assignment (collectively, the "Finalist Submission") become the property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned
The Finalist Submissions will then be judged based on the following Finalist judging criteria ("Finalist Judging Criteria"): for the Video, (i) Poise, (ii) Articulation, and (iii) On-camera presence; and for the Final Assignment, (iv) Quality of reporting and written work. Poise and Articulation can be afforded up to (10) Points each. On-camera presence and Quality of reporting can be afforded up to twenty (20) Points each.
The maximum overall Finalist score for the Finalist Round is sixty (60) Points. In the event of a tie in the Finalist Round, the Submission with the highest "On-camera presence" score will be deemed the potential Grand Prize winner. If a tie still remains, the highest "Quality of reporting" score will be deemed the potential Grand Prize winner. If a tie still remains, the tied entries will be rejudged by the TIME for Kids editors based on the same criteria outlined above
Up to ten (10) Finalists with the highest scores based on the Finalist Judging Criteria will be deemed potential Grand Prize winners and announced in August 2026.
Sponsor reserves the right to choose fewer than ten (10) Grand Prize winners if their Submissions do not meet the minimum Finalist Judging Criteria defined above. Finalists are not, by their participation, guaranteed Grand Prize winner status. Incomplete and/or inaccurate Submissions and Submissions not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification. Decisions of judges are made in their sole discretion and are final and binding. The parents/legal guardians of the Grand Prize winners will be notified by telephone and e-mail on or about August 7, 2026. Sponsor shall have no liability for any Grand Prize winner notification that is lost, intercepted or not received by the potential winner’s parent or legal guardian for any reason. If, despite reasonable efforts, a Grand Prize winner does not respond within five (5) days of the first notification attempt, or if a prize notification is returned as unclaimed or undeliverable to such potential prize winner, such potential Grand Prize winner may forfeit the applicable prize and an alternate winner may be selected. If any potential prize winner is found to be ineligible, or if he or she has not complied with these Official Rules or declines the applicable prize for any reason prior to award, such potential Grand Prize winner may be disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected. Sponsor may successively attempt to contact up to two (2) potential Grand Prize winners in accordance with such procedure, and if there is still no confirmed Grand Prize winner after such attempts have been made, if any, the applicable prize may go unawarded.
-
GRAND PRIZES (10): Up to ten (10) TIME For Kids Kid Reporters will be selected. Participation in any assignment is voluntary, and Kid Reporters may decline any assignment without penalty. Though TIME for Kids will try to give at least one (1) assignment to each Kid Reporter, there is no guarantee that a reporter will be given any assignments. (the "Work") for Sponsor and/or TIME FOR KIDS.
If a potential winner is a confirmed to be a Kid Reporter, Kid Reporter may be invited to participate in media appearances and to provide marketing, advertising, publicity and promotional services, as requested by or on behalf of the Kid Reporter Program, TIME FOR KIDS, and Sponsor, for no additional compensation.
There will be no compensation wages, or remuneration of any kind for any Reporting or participation in the Kid Reporter Program, including any articles, stories reported, filed for and/or published hereunder, including, but not limited to those that may appear in TIME for Kids magazine and/or TIME Magazine, and/or their respective online, digital, and social media platforms. The Kid Reporter Program is an educational prize opportunity, not a paid position. Any expenses incurred in connection with participation in the Kid Reporter Program are the sole responsibility of the Winner and his/her parent or legal guardian. ALL TAXES ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNERS. The prizes are awarded without warranty, express or implied, of any kind. Each Kid Reporter and each Kid Reporter’s parent or legal guardian agrees to have the Kid Reporter’s name, nickname, likeness, persona, photograph, caricature, voice and biographical material used, including, without limitation, in connection with any photographs, drawings, videos or other materials made or provided by them for the selection process and/or in connection with this Contest and in connection with the Reporting and in advertising and promoting TIME, the Kid Reporter Program, and TIME FOR KIDS.
