Grow, Frog, Grow!

A frog goes through four stages of life. These stages are its life cycle. It looks different at each stage. This change is called metamorphosis. Here is how a frog grows.

Egg

Female frogs lay hundreds of eggs. The eggs are like jelly. Inside, frogs are black dots. The eggs hatch in one to three weeks.

Tadpole

A tadpole hatches from an egg. It has a tail but no legs. It lives in water. It breathes with gills.

Froglet

A tadpole becomes a froglet. A froglet has legs and a shorter tail. It breathes with lungs. It can survive out of water.

Frog

A froglet grows into an adult frog. It has no tail. It lives on land. An adult frog can lay eggs. Then a new life cycle begins.
