Fossil Finds
Fossils are the remains of plants or animals from long ago. They can be bones or teeth. Or they can be impressions in rock.
Rock Stars
People who study fossils are paleontologists. They dig for fossils. These scientists have found an elephant tusk.
Set in Stone
This is a plant fossil. Can you see the plant’s leaves and branches? The plant does not exist anymore. But it left an imprint in the rock. The fossil could be millions of years old.
Dino Time
This is a dinosaur fossil. The dino is called an archeopteryx. It lived about 150 million years ago.
Picturing the Past
This is what the archeopteryx may have looked like. How do we know this? Paleontologists made a guess. They based it on fossils. But no one knows for sure.
Where in the World?
Look at the United States map. The states where the most dinosaur fossils have been found are California, Montana, and Wyoming.
