The world is full of animals. They can be classified, or grouped. Animals in a group share traits. Here are five animal groups.

Pigeons are birds.

Birds have feathers. Most have strong muscles so they can fly. A bird hatches from an egg. It eats with its beak.

Salmon are fish.

Fish live in water. Their fins help them swim. Their gills help them breathe. Many are covered in scales.

Lizards are reptiles.

Reptiles are cold-blooded animals. Their body temperature changes with their surroundings. A reptile has scales on its body.

Bears are mammals.

Mammals have fur or hair. Mother mammals feed their babies milk. Humans are mammals too!

Salamanders are amphibians.

Amphibians are cold-blooded. But they do not have scales. They live part of their life in water. They live part on land.
