Dana Bowen (left) and Sara Kate Gillingham want to empower kids. Since 2017, they’ve run a cooking school for children in Brooklyn, New York. Now they’re sharing their lessons in their new cookbook, Dynamite Kids Cooking School.
“Each one of the recipes featured in the book . . . pulls out fundamental cooking skills that we teach in the classroom,” Bowen told TFK. The book also includes helpful advice like how to stock your pantry and read a recipe.
From lasagna to crepes, Bowen and Gillingham balance basic recipes with opportunities to be flexible. “These recipes are templates,” Gillingham says. They hope their book will inspire kids to find a lifelong hobby in cooking. “That’s the real end goal there, to get kids to think like cooks,” she adds.
