Sonic the Hedgehog is back for more speedy adventures in the new movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Sonic, voiced by Ben Schwartz, has to fight a new villain: Shadow, another powerful hedgehog. Viewers learn Shadow’s backstory of a lifetime of pain and loss. It’s the reason he became a villain.
Jim Carrey is back too, as the characteristically round Dr. Robotnik. Carrey also plays Dr. Robotnik’s grandfather, and “meets himself” onscreen. “I hear I’m difficult to work with, so I was a little nervous,” Carrey jokingly told TFK.
Family is one of the movie’s themes. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter play Tom and Maddie, Sonic’s adoptive parents. Sonic was lucky to find Tom and Maddie, Marsden told TFK—“and we were lucky to find him.”
Moviegoers will find it satisfying to see Sonic and Shadow’s rivalry come to life on the big screen. And fans of the franchise will enjoy the special appearances. Be sure to stay through the credits. There are teasers for future Sonic adventures.
