End of the Eras
Taylor Swift just wrapped up the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. In December 2023, the pop star’s Eras Tour became the first concert tour to make more than a billion dollars. But Swift still had months to go. The tour, which started in March of that year, ended this year on December 8. After 21 months and 149 shows, Swift smashed her own record: The tour sold more than $2 billion in tickets, per The New York Times.
That amount doesn’t include other profits from the tour, such as T-shirt sales. Nor does it include ticket sales from Swift’s concert movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The film allowed fans to experience the concert even if they were unable to catch a show in person. It became the highest-grossing concert film of all time, bringing in more than $261 million after its release in October 2023.
Swift’s touring company told the Times that a total of 10,168,008 people attended the tour. It impacted cities around the world. Tourists visited local businesses, including hotels and restaurants, boosting economies. Some people called this the “Taylor effect.”
During her final Eras show, Swift described the tour as “the most thrilling chapter of my entire life to date.” She told fans: “You’re why this is so special.”
