Record-Shattering Cold Weather Grips the U.S.
The New Year has brought freezing-cold weather to much of the United States, setting record lows in parts of the Midwest and East.
“You thought you were cold last year,” said Jeanne Rivera, of Illinois. “But you weren’t cold. Now you’re cold. It hurts.”
The National Weather Service issued wind-chill advisories from Texas to Canada and from Montana to Maine. At press time, the cold had caused at least 12 deaths.
It was even chilly in the South. In Georgia, icy weather led officials to close highways and schools.
