Paw and Order
Dog Man is on another mission to save the day. But this time, the beloved character from Dav Pilkey’s best-selling book series is on the big screen. The movie features Petey, who calls himself the “world’s most evilest cat.” Petey sets out to destroy “supa cop” Dog Man. So Dog Man teams up with head police officer Chief to catch Petey and put him back in cat prison.
Lil Rel Howery (above, at a screening on January 12) voices Chief. Working with a cop who’s part dog and part man can be challenging, he told TIME for Kids. In one scene, Chief throws some crumpled paper. Dog Man keeps retrieving it. “He keeps bringing it back because he can’t help but to do dog things,” Howery says, “even though he’s this incredible cop.”
Howery says the movie is one that people of all ages will enjoy. “I don’t think it’s just for kids,” he says. “My aunt is 70 years old, and she was laughing and cracking up the whole movie.”
Dog Man arrives in theaters on January 31.
