Kids in the Kitchen

Dana Bowen (left) and Sara Kate Gillingham want to empower kids. Since 2017, they’ve run a cooking school for children in New York. Now they’re sharing their lessons in a new cookbook. It’s called Dynamite Kids Cooking School.

“Each of the recipes featured in the book . . . pulls out fundamental cooking skills,” Bowen told TFK. The book offers such advice as how to stock your pantry and read a recipe.

From lasagna to crepes, Bowen and Gillingham present basic recipes as opportunities to be flexible. “These recipes are templates,” Gillingham says. They hope their book will inspire kids to find a lifelong hobby in cooking. “That’s the real end goal there, to get kids to think like cooks,” she adds. —By Cristina Fernandez
