Career Values
Young people want a workplace that matches their values. That’s according to a survey. It was done by the National Society of High School Scholars this year. The organization asked more than 10,000 people what they’re looking for in a career. Everyone surveyed was born between 1996 and 2010.
The survey found that people in this age group want to work for responsible companies. They want to see employees treated fairly. They also want “work-life balance.”
Many people reported liking the idea of jobs in which they can help others. Nearly half were interested in healthcare. Respondents listed St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as the most desirable place to work. The hospital ranked higher than big companies like Amazon and Google.
Many people who are younger than those surveyed are still deciding what they want in a future career. TIME for Kids spoke to one of them: Kayden Estrada. He’s 11 and lives in Pennsylvania. “I want to do what I love,” Kayden said. “And I want to make money.”
