Presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump met for a debate on September 10. It took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More than 50 million people tuned in.

It was the first debate between the vice president and the former president. But it wasn’t the first debate of this election. Trump debated President Biden on June 27. Biden was the Democratic nominee at the time. He dropped out of the race on July 21. Harris became the party’s candidate soon after.

During the debate, the candidates had rules to follow. Each had two minutes to answer a question. Then the other had two minutes to reply. While one spoke, the other’s microphone was turned off.

The candidates debated on issues that voters care about. These included the economy and climate change. And they shared their ideas for the nation. Harris said she offers “a new generation of leadership for our country.” Trump said his plan will “bring up our worth, our value as a country.”
