A New Heroine
In October, Nintendo invited TFK Kid Reporter Nate Rhew to test new game releases at an event in New York City. One of his favorites was Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Read his review of the game below.
The Legend of Zelda is a popular video game series by Nintendo. The first game in the series was released in Japan in 1986. The games are set in the Kingdom of Hyrule. Although Zelda’s name is in the series title, the main character has always been Link. The newest release, Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, is the first in which Princess Zelda is the protagonist.
In the game, mysterious rifts begin to form in the ground. They swallow people up. Link and the King of Hyrule have already disappeared. Now it’s up to Zelda to save her kingdom.
Eiji Aonuma is the producer of the Legend of Zelda series. “Princess Zelda is on her own adventure,” he told an interviewer. “So the story takes on a different perspective than before. I think that’s why we were able to create something new in terms of the story, as well.”
Zelda’s main quest in Echoes of Wisdom is to prevent the rifts from further damaging her kingdom. She also helps other characters complete their quests and solve conflicts. Tri, a fairylike creature who helps Zelda on her adventures, gives her a Tri Rod. This staff gives Zelda the power to create echoes, or mimics of objects. She can use these echoes to build paths, get around obstacles, and fight creatures who get in her way.
Satoshi Terada is the game’s director. “I think this Legend of Zelda game is one that’s approachable even for people who don’t play games very often,” he said in an interview. “With this game, you can play using echoes and try out lots of different things. Your individual personality really comes out in how you choose to use echoes in boss battles,” he says.
I was drawn to Echoes of Wisdom because of the excitement of exploring the Kingdom of Hyrule from Zelda’s perspective. My favorite part of the game is how players can use their creativity by choosing different echoes to fight battles and get through obstacles. I would recommend this game for players who like to be creative, strategize, and go on adventures.
