The Wonders of Rocks
What a Rock Can Reveal uncovers the stories behind different rocks and minerals. This nonfiction book is by Maya Wei-Haas. She spoke with TFK Kid Reporter Ben Stern. “There’s no such thing as a boring rock,” she believes. Each has a history. Wei-Haas has fun describing these histories. Pumice stones form from lava. The lava is full of gas, like “a freshly shaken soda.” Magma is “sizzling-hot stony soup.” The language helps you see what she’s writing about. As a kid, Wei-Haas liked to notice things around her. She wants you to do that too. “Rocks are really important in our everyday lives,” she says.
