The Games Come to a Close
On August 24, the 2008 Olympics ended with a bang! Fireworks burst over the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing, China. The closing ceremony drew a big crowd. Some 91,000 people watched from the stands.
The Games began on August 8. Athletes broke 132 Olympic records. U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps won eight gold medals. He is the only person to do so in one Olympics.
The world's top athletes put on a great show. American athletes took home 110 medals. Go Team USA!
